Part two of Sean Hannity's interview with Sarah Palin... here we go!
Hannity is asking her about her son serving in Iraq. What did she say? And he say? She's proud. He's independent and strong. She's proud of our troops. Her son said he belongs to the Army now.. he belongs to America. It'll be OK and he chose to serve.
Asking why we need to win in Iraq. Retreat is not an option. Retreat is defeat. She's heard of Gen. Patreaus and mentions his name. Al Quada is recognizing that Iraq is central front to war on terror. They'd love that stronghold to be built in Iraq.
Asking what countries are threats. She's talking about Islamic terrorists. Iran, Russia. Why is she insisting in instigating Russia? North Korea... there's concern there... nothing definitive... Need to commit to no Cold War. Pressure for diplomacy w/ Russia. Does not want war with Russia (who does?). Thinks new leadership is new opportunity for new relationships.
Asking what she views as the Bush Doctrine and the US's role in the world in National Security. I had to pause here. Hannity mentioned that this was brought up in the ABC interview. So now he's asking her about it again because now she's had time to prepare and give a good answer. Oh boy! Anyway, unpausing... let's see what she says... US's role is being a force for good. Leader when it comes to values that humankind embraces. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. (Glad she stole that from the Declaration of Independence...) To help rising democratic countries. We'll be their leader and a force for good. Great... let's keep forming the world in our image instead of letting them lead their own lives...
Asking about people demeaning her credentials to be VP. She respects McCain's maverick streak. His track record of reform. Says opponents are ignoring what she has done. What would that be? Now talking about opposition researchers up in Alaska. She says that they are focusing on the issues. Yeah, that's why we keep seeing the smear ads about Obama.
Commercial.
Asking about Obama and her comments about him being a community organizer. She didn't mean to hurt his feeling or offend any community organizers. She was directing a comment at Obama because he took a shot at mayors of small towns.
Asking about Women's groups not supporting her. She says that's their prerogative. She believes their ticket is the right ticket for America. She's not changing her positions to woo them. I don't know how smart that is to say. They'll need those women voters.
Asking about Biden and his experience and debating him. She says Biden has lots of experience. He has the rhetoric. It'll be a task. She says the American people are concerned about the issues. They want to know a person's world view and judge where they will lead them. I can only hope!
Asking about her saying Obama regrets not picking Hillary Clinton. She says she showed a lot of stick-to-it-ed-ness (sp? That's what she said! I tried to type it...). Clinton did things people cannot take away from her. Cracking the glass ceiling.
Asking about Obama saying PA residents clinging to guns and religion. Was it a put down of middle class people? She says she's one of those people. She wouldn't say different things about different parts of the country, which apparently she's accusing Obama of doing. Now praising McCain... he's the same man wherever he is. Wants to work for Americans and put gov't on their side... I'm not sure what this has to do with the question...
Commercial.
Asking about harsh attacks against her. Examples: primary qualification: didn't have an abortion... she shares nothing but a chromosome with Hillary Clinton... another one I missed. Appalled by the first comment. She knows what her convictions are. Nothing compared to the shots people in America are taking. People losing houses, jobs... losing child in war. Nice job of trying to show she can relate.
Asking about Ed Rendell saying coverage of Obama in this campaign is embarrassing. (Really?) Hannity says 69% believe that the media is trying to help the candidate they want... Obama. Hannity asks about media bias. She says conservative candidates need to know what they are getting in to. Can't whine about it. Pointing out her baby fat! Nice! Says it's thick skin.
Asking about banning books in Alaska library. She says no. Says list (including Harry Potter) is false.
Says she was never part of a group that wanted to secede Alaska from the US. I heard about this and I don't know if this was true or not. I thought this had something to do with her husband.... OK. I just looked it up. She was not a member of the group but her husband was! She did attend a meeting once. I don't believe that she would ever want to secede Alaska and she only attended the meeting as a courtesy since she was mayor. I'll give her the credit here.
Moving on...
Asking about teaching creationism. She says no. Her dad was a science teacher.
Asking about supporting Pat Buchanon. She did wear a button when he came to her town.
Asking about Bridge to Nowhere. Did she support it and change her mind? Says she killed it. AGAIN saying that. NOT TRUE! Congress killed it by denying the money she wanted! Says Alaska can't pay for it now.
Asking about firing of her ex-brother-in-law. She says he's never been fired. There are two issues: says his boss was insubordinate. Had other strengths. Asked him to transfer and he said no. Says she asked personnel board to investigate the issue.
Asking about it being a big October surprise. Says ex-BIL tasered 10 year old, her nephew. Threatened her Dad. It's all in the record.
Commercial...
Asking about balancing career and family life. She thought a lot about it. Kids are used to a very full life. They'll make it work. Sacrifices have to be made. You have to find that balance.
Asking about really big plane. Will she sell it on Ebay? Ugh. Couldn't ask more poignant questions than that? She says she'll need that.
Asking about her role in the McCain administration. About families with special needs. Was it hard for her (having a special needs child)? It took many months to get her heart wrapped around the idea. Knew her prayers were answered when her son was born. All good.
Asking about religion and her faith. How important are they? Very, very important. Doesn't wear it on her sleeve, wouldn't shove it down anyone's throat or convert anyone. It's a simple faith. Her foundation.
Who inspires her? Ronald Reagan. Figures she'd say that. Margaret Thatcher. Abraham Lincoln. Picked people who people like. Smart.
What motivates her? Her love of our country. Her heart does a double-take when she sees a soldier. She has a passion for Americans. She said a lot of other things too that were all just kind of Yeah America! things.
Last question: What was life like in Wasilla? It's small town America. Proud to be Americans. Love of freedom. Wants to implement things she learned in America. Trying to say all the yippee America! rhetoric to make herself look patriotic and what America is all about.
Commercial. Question and answer time must be coming up.
Joining them: Newt Gingrich.
Asking him about his thoughts. Newt's asking about Hannity's judgement of Palin. Hannity says honestly: he thinks she's authentic. Newt agrees. Newt's talking about who she said inspired her.
Hannity saying she was quick to answer his questions. Asking why she wasn't known nationally sooner. Newt says ... OK, he's gushing over her... not really answering the question. Saying she answers questions well. OK, she wasn't so quick and strong with Charlie Gibson with answering questions... saying she rose so fast. He's giving her experience...
Here's Colmes. Asking Gingrich about how women's groups are not supporting her. Does that make her the best choice for VP? Newt's laughing at him. Newt says respect that she's an intelligent person. Asks Colmes how he could support someone who picked Biden for VP. Newt says you can't compare him to Clinton. Colmes says it's a better ticket with more experience than McCain/Palin.
Commercial.
Showing a clip of Biden saying they want to give money back to the middle-class and for people making more than $250K to be paying more in taxes ... it's patriotic.
Colmes asking Gingrich about Biden saying if you can pay, you should pay. Newt says does he not think the poor and middle-class are patriotic? Says Biden is saying you should patriotically pay him more money. Colmes asking Newt about rescinding Bush tax cuts and for richer people contributing more is Patriotic. Newt says Biden has not contributed himself. Says taking tax money from people is not contributing, it's coercive. It's Biden's desire for more big gov't.
Now Hannity is back on pointing out Biden's lack of charitable contributions. Nice of him to stay on topic instead of just pulling out stats from nowhere to try to badmouth the Dems...
Showing a McCain ad against Obama. A guy named Franklin Raines who did some bad things is advising Obama. Apparently Raines was the head of Fannie Mae and made a lot of money while Fannie Mae failed. Nice! That might not be the best person to be your financial adviser...
Asking Newt about this and attacking McCain on the banking crises. Now Newt is attacking Raines. Basically saying that the guy did some illegal things. Probably right.
Now showing a clip of Michelle Obama. Saying people shouldn't make their decision on "I like that guy" or "she's cute".
Now Hannity asking about that comment. Newt's not taking umbrage of that.
That's all.
Not as explosive as last night. I do have to say that Hannity did his job: He made Palin looked good. She looked much more competent and confident. She was quick with answers and answered well. Now, Hannity is known for being extremely (to put it nicely) pro-Republican. He was so nice to hear my teeth are rotting from the sweetness. It's obvious they picked him to interview her to make her comfortable and look competent. And it worked. Nicely done by both of them. Let's see what happens during the VP debate where the questions are not spoon-fed to her.
Just so I'm not accused of being all one-sided, the fact that this Franklin Raines is Obama's financial advisor isn't so great. Certainly someone who made lots of money while other people suffered is not someone I'd like to see in Obama's camp. Hopefully that will change.
That's all for now. Thanks for reading.
